With the rise of blockchain integration, all industries are facing a shortage of software engineers in this field. In order to meet the growing demand, George Brown College in Canada is launching a blockchain development program for freshmen.

Canadian College is launching a blockchain comprehensive certificate program

Blockchain Comprehensive Certificate Program

According to a press release, George Brown College will become the first university in Canada to provide a comprehensive certificate in blockchain technology.

The development plan of blockchain will teach students the technical knowledge about blockchain. In addition, the courses of the program are developed by industry professionals who are currently engaged in distributed ledger technology projects.

In an official press release, Albert Danison, Dean of the School of Computing, stated:

"The most important challenge hindering the growth of blockchain today is finding qualified talent. Through this new program, we are helping to build the workforce that Canada needs to utilize and ensuring mainstream adoption of this technology."

In order to meet the growing demand, educational institutions have taken actions to teach new students about blockchain technology. For example, MIT and Princeton University have provided similar full-time blockchain certificate courses and majors.

The George Brown blockchain development project will further involve students in the design and implementation of decentralized applications (dApps), smart contracts, security practices, and laws and regulations.

The industry plan will accept only 20 students and will teach in an "executive mode" during three semesters.

Marc Lijour agreed with ConsenSys' solution delivery and participated in the construction of the program's courses. In an official press release, Marc Lijour said: “The blockchain industry is developing rapidly, so more education programs will help provide companies with opportunities to obtain top talent. ICTC research estimates that by 2024, Canada will create more than 100,000 blockchain positions. I call on my former colleagues in the Ministry of Education to help us expand this project in the coming months."

This freshman program aims to help students master the necessary tools, such as finance, retail, healthcare, and logistics, and will be launched at George Brown College on September 4.
