On the evening of May 2, Beijing time, MediaTek released the latest Android smart phone system-on-chip (SOC) MT6572 on Thursday.

MT6572 is the world's first dual-core SOC chip that integrates WiFi, FM radio, GPS and Bluetooth, and is mainly aimed at the entry-level Android smartphone market.

The MT6572 is based on a dual-core Cortex-A7 processor with a clock frequency of 1.2 GHz. Cortex-A7 is ARM's most energy-efficient application processor.

MT6572 supports 5 million pixel camera, can record 720p video, and supports 960x540 screen resolution. In addition, MT6572 also integrates MediaTek's own HSPA + modem.

MediaTek did not specify the price of smartphones based on MT6572, but the ARM website shows that the cost of smartphones based on the Cortex-A7 processor will be less than US $ 100 this year or next year, but the performance is comparable to the high-end phones of US $ 500 in 2010.

MediaTek and ARM believe that smartphones based on MT6572 and Cortex-A7 will redefine the smartphone market and make it more daily.

At present, the growth momentum of the smartphone market mainly comes from low-end products. Research firm ABI Research estimates that smartphone shipments under $ 250 in 2018 will increase from 259 million this year to 788 million. This means that the share is 46%, compared with 28% in 2012.

MediaTek said the first batch of smartphones based on the MT6572 platform will be available in June this year.
