Lin Huiyin (1904-1955)
Lin Huiyin was formerly known as Lin Huiyin, and was born in Fujian Province. Born in Hangzhou on June 10, 1904, he went to Europe with his father to travel to London, Paris, and Geneva in 1920. In the same year, he entered the St. Mary's School in London. Participated in the New Moon Society in 1923. In 1924, he studied in the United States, entered the Fine Arts College of the University of Pennsylvania, and took an elective course in architecture. He graduated in 1927 with a bachelor's degree in fine arts. In the same year, Yale University Drama Academy studied stage art design at GP Parker's studio. In March 1928, he married Liang Sicheng in Vancouver, Canada. In 1929, he served as an associate professor in the Department of Architecture at Northeastern University, teaching History of Sculpture and professional English. In 1931, he applied to the China Construction Society in Beijing.
From 1931 to 1946, during the construction of the Chinese Society, he participated in the investigation and study of ancient Chinese architecture, covering Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Zhejiang, Henan, Shandong, and Shaanxi.
In 1946, he served as a professor of architecture at Tsinghua University, teaching "The History of Chinese Architecture" and offering special lectures such as "Residential Overview" for graduate students. In 1949, he participated in the design of the National Emblem of the People's Republic of China. In 1951, he designed the ornamentation and relief pattern for the Monument to the People's Heroes of Tianan 11 Square. In 1951, a new pattern of cloisonne was investigated and tested in person.
In 1950, he served as a member of the Beijing Urban Planning Committee and an engineer. In 1953, he was elected as the first council member of the China Architecture Society, a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Architecture and a member of the China Building Research Committee. The projects involved in the design include the Peking University Geological Hall, the Grey House Student Dormitory, the Yunnan University Student Dormitory, the Tsinghua University Teacher's Residence, and the Zhongnanhai Huairentang Decoration Project.
Her published papers on architecture mainly include "On Several Characteristics of Chinese Architecture", "Pictures of Pingjiao Architecture" (co-authored with Liang Sicheng), and the first chapter of "Qing Style Construction", "Jinxi Ancient "Pre-inspection of Buildings" (signed by Lin Huiyin, Liang Sicheng), "Discussion on the identification of the building age by Tianning Temple" (signed by Lin Huiyin, Liang Sicheng), "Chinese Architecture History" (Liao, Song Part), "Chinese Architectural Development" Historical Stage (co-authored with Liang Sicheng and Mo Zongjiang).
Her literary works mainly include dozens of poems such as "Who Loves This Unchanging Change", "Laughs", "Love", "One Day", "Exciting", "Night of Dreams", "Thinking", etc. True with them"; short stories "窘", "Ninety-nine degrees", etc.; prose "outside the window", "a piece of sunshine" and so on. The People's Literature Publishing House published The Collection of Lin Huiyin's Poems (1985).
Lin Huiyin is an architect, professor, poet and writer. She is a talented woman in the Chinese architectural world in the 20th century.
Lin Huiyin died in Beijing on April 1, 1955.
