International Rectifier (IR), a global leader in power semiconductors and management solutions, has recently introduced two automotive-grade DirectFET™ power MOSFETs designed for low gate charge applications. These devices are ideal for use in switching power supplies (SMPS), Class D audio systems, high-intensity gas discharge (HID) lighting, and other automotive power conversion applications. The AU IR F7648M2 and AU IR F7669L2 represent IR’s first automotive DirectFET™ products tailored specifically for DC-DC applications. They offer reduced gate charge and on-resistance (RDS(on)), which helps minimize both switching and conduction losses. The unique DirectFET™ package design also features low parasitic inductance, enabling excellent high-frequency performance and reducing waveform ringing. This results in lower electromagnetic interference and the ability to use smaller filters in system designs. Pan Dawei, Vice President of Sales for IR Asia Pacific, stated, “IR’s consumer-grade DirectFET™ products have delivered significant value to DC-DC customers over the years. Now, our automotive customers can benefit from the same high-performance features, including improved efficiency and frequency capabilities. Whether it's micro-hybrid, full-hybrid, or traditional internal combustion engine systems, these new automotive DirectFET™ devices are well-suited to meet a wide range of DC-DC application needs.” The AUIRF7648M2 comes in a PCB package that is 54% smaller than the DPak, while the AUIRF7669L2 offers a 60% smaller footprint compared to the D2Pak. Despite their compact size, these devices provide current ratings of 179A and 375A respectively, with no limitations on silicon current capability. Additionally, their maximum current rating far exceeds that of traditional DPak and D2Pak packages. Designed to meet the AEC-Q101 standard, these new MOSFETs were developed under IR’s strict automotive quality concept, which demands zero defects. The materials used are environmentally friendly, lead-free, and RoHS compliant, ensuring compliance with global environmental regulations.
