International Rectifier (IR), a global leader in power semiconductors and management solutions, has recently introduced two new automotive-grade DirectFETâ„¢ power MOSFETs designed for low gate charge applications. These devices are ideal for use in switching power supplies (SMPS), Class D audio systems, high-intensity gas discharge (HID) lighting, and other automotive power conversion systems.
The AUIRF7648M2 and AUIRF7669L2 are the first automotive DirectFETâ„¢ devices tailored specifically for DC-DC applications. They offer low gate charge and on-resistance (RDS(on)), which significantly reduces both switching and conduction losses. The DirectFETâ„¢ package also features low parasitic inductance, enabling excellent high-frequency performance and minimizing waveform ringing. This helps reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) and allows for smaller filter designs.
Pan Dawei, Vice President of Sales for IR Asia Pacific, commented: "IR's consumer-grade DirectFETâ„¢ products have delivered significant value to DC-DC customers over the years. Now, our automotive customers can benefit from the same advanced performance and efficiency. Micro-hybrid, full-hybrid, and traditional internal combustion engine systems can now leverage these new automotive DirectFETâ„¢ devices to meet a wide range of DC-DC application requirements."
In terms of size, the AUIRF7648M2 uses a PCB package that is 54% smaller than the DPak, while the AUIRF7669L2 is 60% smaller than the D2Pak. Despite their compact sizes, these devices deliver impressive current ratings—179A for the AUIRF7648M2 and 375A for the AUIRF7669L2. The DirectFET™ package does not limit silicon current capability, and its maximum current rating far exceeds that of traditional DPak and D2Pak packages.
These new devices are AEC-Q101 compliant and were developed under IR’s strict automotive quality concept, which demands zero defects. Additionally, they are manufactured using environmentally friendly, lead-free, and RoHS-compliant materials.
