Taiwan actively promotes LED lighting industry

In order to promote LED lighting applications, the Energy Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs established relevant standards and government departments to use specifications, from outdoor lighting of LED street lights, signage lights, landscape lights, to indoor lighting of LED indoor lighting, and to use energy conservation performance guarantee (ESCOs) mechanisms. Gradual promotion, reducing government financial burden, creating win-win results for users and operators, and achieving excellent results.

In recent years, the Taiwan Energy Administration has completed the application of LED lighting products in public construction. In 2011, it completed nearly 700,000 LED traffic lights in Taiwan, and became the second road and urban road in the world to use LED traffic. It is estimated that 247 million kWh of electricity will be saved each year.

In addition, the Taiwan Provincial Energy Administration also actively promotes the LED street lamp application demonstration program. From 2008 to 2014, it will assist the local government to complete nearly 310,000 LED street lamp face-lifts. After the completion, LED street lamps account for nearly 17% of the total number of street lamps in Taiwan.

Implement energy-saving and carbon-reduction policies, caring for disadvantaged ethnic groups, and promoting the triple benefit of LED lighting industry development. Through the "LED energy-saving lighting promotion plan," the Energy Bureau will uniformly purchase 500,000 high-size LED light bulbs to send to low-income households in the province and the community. Welfare agencies help to save lighting electricity.

In the face of media reports, the Taiwan Energy Bureau's subsidy policy for LED lamps in gas stoves, the Taiwan Energy Administration pointed out that although LED bulbs are an energy-saving lighting product, LED bulbs have not yet been included in the inspection of domestic products, and incandescent lamps and provinces Light bulbs are common indoor lighting sources. At present, LED bulbs are the best replacements for incandescent bulbs. However, the efficiency of replacing energy-saving bulbs needs to be improved. At this stage, it is not appropriate for the government to fully subsidize the purchase of people.

To enhance the technology and competitiveness of LED lighting companies in Taiwan, the Taiwan Energy Board stated that the government will expand the market for LED lighting applications through regulations and administrative measures, formulate relevant regulations and specifications, assist industry players in creating brands and channels, and expand International application market.
