China develops new artificial intelligence _ for the first time carrying the Cambrian AI chip
Zhongke Shuguang, a leading Chinese company in high-performance computing, has recently announced the successful development of its first artificial intelligence server, named "Phaneron," which is powered by the Cambrian AI chip. This breakthrough marks a significant step forward in the field of AI computing.
"Phaneron is designed as an online reasoning platform for deep learning applications," said Sha Chaoqun, vice president of Zhongke Shuguang. "Unlike offline training, online inference requires fast response times rather than heavy computational power. To handle real-time requests and process data efficiently, a large number of front-end acceleration chips are needed."
The server can deploy up to 20 human-like reasoning modules within a 4U space, offering strong computational support for AI tasks. The name "Phaneron" is derived from the Phanerozoic Eon, often referred to as the "Age of Visible Life." The Cambrian period marks the beginning of this era, symbolizing a new chapter in AI development.
"This is the first major achievement from the strategic collaboration between Zhongke Shuguang and Cambrian Technology since last year," Sha added.
Cambrian's AI chip has proven to be more efficient in terms of performance, power consumption, and chip area compared to traditional CPUs and GPUs. It represents a new standard in AI computing with high performance and low energy use. In 2016, it was recognized as one of the 15 "World’s Leading Scientific and Technological Achievements" by the World Internet Conference.
Looking ahead, Zhongke Shuguang plans to expand its infrastructure using Cambrian’s AI chips, including high-performance computers and cloud servers tailored for specific AI applications. These advanced solutions will be delivered through Zhongke Shuguang’s nationwide city cloud system, providing users with cutting-edge artificial intelligence capabilities.
