China develops new artificial intelligence _ for the first time carrying the Cambrian AI chip
Zhongke Shuguang, a leading Chinese company in high-performance computing, has recently announced the successful development of its first artificial intelligence server, named "Phaneron," which is powered by the Cambrian AI chip. This breakthrough marks a significant step forward in the field of AI hardware and online reasoning.
"Phaneron is specifically designed for deep learning inference tasks, which differ from offline training in that they require fast response times rather than heavy computational power," said Sha Chaoqun, Vice President of Zhongke Shuguang. "To support real-time data processing and decision-making, a large number of front-end acceleration chips are needed. Phaneron can fit up to 20 human-like reasoning modules within a 4U space, offering strong computing capabilities for inference tasks."
The name "Phaneron" is inspired by the Phanerozoic Eon, often translated as the "Era of the Visible Earth." The Cambrian period marks the beginning of this eon, symbolizing a new era of technological advancement in AI.
"This is the first major achievement resulting from the strategic partnership between Zhongke Shuguang and Cambrian Technology since last year," Sha added.
Cambrian's AI chip is known for its superior performance, energy efficiency, and compact design compared to traditional CPUs and GPUs. It represents a key innovation in AI computing, with low power consumption and high performance. In 2016, it was recognized as one of the 15 "World's Leading Scientific and Technological Achievements" by the World Internet Conference.
Looking ahead, Zhongke Shuguang plans to expand its infrastructure by integrating Cambrian's AI chips into various applications, such as high-performance computers and cloud servers. Through its nationwide city cloud system, the company aims to provide advanced AI computing solutions to users across China.
