It is understood that in the past few decades, two channel coding techniques close to the capacity limit have emerged: LDPC and Turbo codes, which were adopted by the 3G and 4G communication standards and the WiFi standard, respectively. In 2007, the Turkish professor E. Arikan proposed the Polar code, which is known as the only coding method that has been found so far to reach the Shannon limit.

So why do some companies support Polar codes, and some companies support LDPC codes? In fact, this is like a bet. If you look at some kind of coding technology, you will start to study it. Once the gambling wins, the research results can be applied quickly. Once you lose, you can only start from scratch. For example, Huawei chose the Polar code, and 5G also chose the Polar code, which means that Huawei will have more influence in the future of 5G. 3GPP determined that PolarCode is the control channel coding solution, which means that Huawei won the 5G starting line, laying a more stable foundation for future development.

We all know that first-class companies do standards, second-rate companies do brands, and third-rate companies do manufacturing. The development of communication technology standards has always been a battleground for the industry. Huawei has won the 5GeMBB solution. This is a very rare event, highlighting the improvement of China's communication technology in the international arena.

According to the overall deployment, China's 5G basic R&D test will be conducted in 2016-2018, which is divided into three stages: 5G key technology test, 5G technical solution verification and 5G system verification. China is expected to launch 5G commercial use in 2020. At present, Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, ZTE, Samsung and other companies have developed concept prototypes for some 5G key technologies. For Huawei, 5G development still has a long way to go.
