Among the many high-techs that are fashionable today, what are the real hopes for solving practical problems and representing the trend of technological development? MIT has handed over a copy of their answer sheet recently. In this list, there are a total of 10 technologies that they believe are most likely to succeed, and that have achieved (or are about to be achieved) milestones in the past year. Next, let's take a look at what new technologies are on the list.

Immunoengineering

Technological breakthrough: killer T cells can kill cancer

Reason for listing: Ability to treat cancer, multiple sclerosis and HIV through an engineered immune system

Genetically engineered immune cells can be used to save the lives of cancer patients, and this is just the beginning. Within one to two years, the technology will mature.

The technology was invented by Cellectis, and the engineered T cells thus produced can move and recognize cells autonomously, and have memory functions like small robots , so they can be used to kill other specific virus cells.

This is a very radical high-tech treatment method that has been tested on more than 300 patients and in most cases can completely cure patients. More than a dozen pharmaceutical companies and biotech companies are working hard to bring this technology to market.

Accurate editing of plant genetic technology

Technological breakthrough: the ability to accurately edit plant genes at a low cost, without leaving any foreign DNA after that

Reason for listing: Humans need to increase agricultural productivity to meet the needs of the world's growing population (the global population is expected to reach 1 billion by 2050)

The gene editing technology CRISPR can easily and reliably change crop genes and create traits such as drought tolerance and disease resistance to increase yield. The technology takes 5-10 years to mature.

Research from the past year has shown that the technology can leave traces of foreign DNA without changing any genes. This means that the technology may not be constrained by existing GMO regulations and successfully avoids the concerns of most consumers. At present, a laboratory in China has used this technology to develop resistant wheat and increase food production.

It is worth mentioning that the technology was launched two years ago and was rated as one of the top 10 breakthrough technologies in 2014 by MIT. This is the second time.
