Latest ISO International Standard for Lighting

Rising living costs and concerns about protecting the environment have made homeowners increasingly interested in finding ways to reduce energy use. A new ISO international standard provides a framework to include various factors to be considered in the architectural design process to achieve higher energy efficiency - lower energy costs.

The energy consumption of buildings - including temperature control, appliances, lighting, and other installed equipment - accounts for nearly 40% of the world's total energy use. Through a global promotion, the introduction of energy efficiency concepts in the design process will lead to the reduction of energy demand, including the definition of construction sites, building envelopes, energy systems and products.

ISO13153:2012, Energy-saving design framework for single-family homes and small commercial buildings will help designers to evaluate the choice of energy-saving effect element technology at different stages of the design process. For example, in cold climate conditions, the insulating envelope structure is selected as elemental technology will contribute to the space thermal energy savings.

ISO13153 provides a framework for designing energy-efficient single family homes and small commercial buildings. The predicted reduction in energy consumption is expressed as the "energy ratio", which compares the actual energy use with the potential for energy savings.
