According to foreign media reports, a recent Mercedes Bus from Mercedes-Benz has launched a long-distance test on the highway in the Netherlands. The bus was successfully transferred from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport to Haarlem. The driving route is mainly bus rapid transit, including turning, crossroads, pedestrian areas and so on. Throughout the entire driving process, no one intervened, and finally successfully completed a 20 km driving distance. The maximum speed can reach 70 km, setting a new test record, indicating that the Mercedes-Benz CityPilot automatic driving system has gradually matured.

The CityPilot platform is based on Daimler Highway Pilot's self-driving truck technology and has been adjusted to meet the needs of the bus itself. It uses more than a dozen different cameras, and it is equipped with GPS and two different radar systems to work together. Highway Pilot is suitable for highway driving. The sensors monitor the surroundings of the car. Then the car calculates the road condition information and accurate real-time map data so that the bus can recognize pedestrians, intersection lights, and other obstacles. Stop for passengers to get on and off. When the vehicle is parked, the distance from the wheel to the kerb can be controlled within 2 inches.

Unlike other self-driving cars, the bus connects to the city network and communicates with traffic lights and other infrastructure in the city. The camera system can even scan the pits on the road to avoid it early in the next trip and feed the data back to the municipal department.

The structural design of Future Bus is based on the Mercedes Citaro bus. The interior theme is a city park. The seats are divided into three different zones according to the length of the ride. Drivers can communicate with passengers through the large display screen.

At present, more and more companies are entering the field of automatic driving buses. Two weeks ago, Japanese game company DeNA launched an automatic driving minibus, and domestic Yutong buses had already been tested for automatic driving buses as early as 2015. Mercedes-Benz Future Bus is not the first automatic bus to pick up passengers, but it is the first bus to achieve automatic driving within the bus system.
